I-V and D-IV Analysis
Calculation of the current-voltage curve
We carry out I-V and D-IV (Dark I-V) analyses, which are specialist analyses that are essential for identifying specific damage to photovoltaic systems for warranty claim procedures or for seeking reimbursement from insurance companies. The measurement and calculation of the I-V curve (current – voltage), of the module or of the string, enables the identification of short-circuit currents and no-load voltages. I-V curves can be calculated in the daylight or at night (Dark I-V) by properly feeding the strings, and thus independently of weather conditions, temperature and irradiation.
The I-V curve and the resulting calculation of equivalent resistances can be very useful for the identification of the following problems:
- short circuits of by-pass diodes
- corrosion of the glass
- delamination phenomena
- degradation of modules
- PID (Potential Induced Degradation)
- LID (Light Induced Degradation) for crystalline modules
- short circuits within cells
- broken cells
I-V and D-IV analyses are recommended in the following cases:
- underperforming system
- problems resulting from poor insulation
- aesthetic anomalies (ribbon oxidation, backsheet not intact, yellowing of the module, etc.)
These analyses can be carried out all year round, day or night.
